Letter from the Superintendent RE: Halloween 2025

October 27, 2025

Dear Parents and Guardians,

We all want Halloween night to be both fun and safe for all children.  We are aware that, especially with it falling on a Friday evening this year, there is concern that there could be damage to schools or other public buildings, as well as the potential for injuries to youths who are actively engaging in unsafe behaviours.  With this in mind, we are asking for parents and community members to assist us in making sure Halloween is a fun night for everyone:

  • Ensure that costumes have reflective materials on them, avoid costumes that pose tripping hazards, and use flashlights to assist trick or treaters.
  • Recognize that, by City bylaw requirements and School District expectations, the use and possession of firecrackers or fireworks at school and anywhere in the City is strictly prohibited. This pertains to students and community members before, during, or after school.
  • Discourage the use of 'realistic' weapons or masks, as these are a potential safety concern for the RCMP and others.
  • Encourage older children to trick or treat as an alternative to less safe activities.
  • Keep an eye out for activity like vandalism or fireworks use in your neighbourhood and report to the RCMP.

All City parks and school fields are closed at dusk.   Please assist us in keeping children away from these public areas after dark. With your help, we can ensure that everyone can have a safe and fun Halloween, no matter their age.  Thank you for your consideration and support.

Sincerely,
